First we will need to shut off the water at the shut off valve either on the wall or floor. Once the water is shut off, flush the toilet to empty the tank. Next, using a sponge and rags sop up the remaining water left in the tank. So far so good? Good.

Using the adjustable wrench, disconnect the water supply tube from the bottom of the toilet tank. Then using the socket wrench remove the nuts that bolt the tank to the toilet. Now you can remove the tank from the toilet and carefully set it aside.

Next, using the screwdriver, pry off the caps that cover the floor bolts. Use your adjustable wrench to remove the nuts from the floor bolts. Now rock the toilet until the seal breaks and pull the toilet straight up off the floor bolts. Your toilet is now fully removed.

With the scraper, scrape up the old wax ring from the toilet flange on the floor. Insert a rag into the sewer hole to prevent sewer gas from escaping until you are ready to install your new toilet. You will realize this job is easier than you expected and it will give you confidence in tackling bigger jobs. Happy flushing.
